How do I get started on earning money?

To earn money you need to send people to our website so that they can buy something. As soon as they do, you will receive a commission. Here are some ways that you can do that:

1) Give away a free ebook

The simplest way to do this is to download one or both of the free ebooks. You can then use the special branding tool provided to insert your affiliate ID code into each of the hyperlinks in the book. Then you give the book away to as many people as you can.

When they read the book, they will be encouraged to click on the links which will bring them to our websites. As soon as they do that, they will be logged as having been referred by you. Then, if they return at any time in the next year, to buy something, we will know they originally came through your link, and so you will receive the commission.

2) Put links to our sites on your website

You can put text or graphic adverts on your site. Or you could write up product reviews. Or simply talk about how great the products are. Whichever way you do it, just make sure you include your affiliate ID on the hyperlink. You will find the correct links to use in the Affiliate Control Panel. Anyone who clicks on your link will be recorded as your referral - whether they just browse, sign up for a newsletter, download a free ebook, or buy loads.

3) Put a signature file at the end of your emails

This is just like a mini advert that goes out with every email you send. Again, remember to include your affiliate ID!

4) Develop your own newsletter and mailing list

In the long term, if you are serious about earning a good income as an affiliate, this is what you will need to do. By building up a list of people who like and trust you, you will have a much more receptive audience when you make recommendations about particular products.

Who is eligible to participate in the 7StepsToFreedom.com affiliate program?

You! Provided you are 1) over 18 years of age, and 2) you live in a country that is covered by PayPal (otherwise you won't be able to receive your payments!)

Almost every web site qualifies to participate in the Affiliate Program. However, we do reserve the right to deem a web site unacceptable. The following are examples of sites that will NOT be accepted into the program:

Sites that promote sexually explicit material

Sites that promote violence

Sites that promote discrimination based on race, sex, religion, national origin, physical disability, sexual orientation, or age

Sites that promote illegal activities

Sites that violate intellectual property rights

What does it cost to join?

NOTHING! There are no fees of any kind for applying to and or participating in our Affiliate Program. There is no charge to apply and there is no minimum sales requirement or sales quota that you must reach before earning referral commissions. You start earning right away.

How does the affiliate program work?

When you sign up you will receive a 4-digit ID code. This is your affiliate code. Every time that you send someone to one of our websites using that link, they will be logged as one of your referrals. This is done both by setting a 1-year cookie on their hard drive and also by login their IP address.

Then, if they ever make any purchase at any time in the next year, you will receive a commission payment.

The only real exception to this is if they are referred to our website in the future by a different affiliate using that affiliates code. In that case, any subsequent sales will be attributed to the most recent affiliate code.

How do I use my Affiliate ID code?

Go to the affiliate control panel. Under the heading "View Links" you will find the hyperlink codes that you can use on your website or in your emails. When anyone clicks on one of these links, their visit will be attributed to you.

Alternatively, you can brand the free ebooks with your code, and simply give them away. Full instructions on how to brand the ebooks are included with the ebook download.

Does it matter what country I live in?

Yes. We make all our commission payments through PayPal. So you will need to sign up for a PayPal account, if you don't already have one, don't worry, it costs nothing to sign up, and is very useful to have. However, PayPal will accept clients from only a limited list of countries (45 at the last count). You will need to check here to see if your country is listed. If it is, you are welcome to join our affiliate program. If it is not, well, you could still join, but we wouldn't be able to pay you! Sorry about that.

Of course! You do not need a website - you could run a perfectly profitable business just by email - or even offline!

I signed up as a reseller but never received an email with my ID and instructions. I signed up again. Now I have two ID's. Which one do I use?

You can use either or both. You can, in fact, have as many affiliate accounts as you like. But for each one you must provide an email address that is linked with a valid PayPal account, or else you won't get paid!

Getting Paid

How do I make money giving away a free ebook?

Ain't it great? All you do is brand the book with your affiliate ID code (full instructions provided when you sign up as an affiliate). Then give it away! In the book are numerous links to various websites. Whenever anyone clicks on one of those links and, eventually, buys something, you get the commission! So all you have to do is give away the books and let us do the selling!

Alternatively, you can use your affiliate hyperlinks to send people to my site to download the free ebook themselves. It won't be branded with your code, but that does not matter! Their visit is still logged to you, and you will still get the commission. And it gets even better (see next question)...

How do I make money from someone else giving away a free ebook?

If you send someone to my site (perhaps as a result of reading the branded ebook) and they then decide to sign up as an affiliate themselves, then they too can give away a free ebook! Naturally, they will then earn the usual Tier One commission on any sales - and you will get a Tier Two commission. So you earn money from them giving away a free book! How good can it get????

What is a sub-affiliate?

When you sign up you become an affiliate. When you introduce someone to the program and then they sign up they become affiliates too, and also are your sub-affiliates. The good news is that when your sub-affiliates are credited with sales (in just the same way that you, as an affiliate, are), then you are credited with Tier 2 commissions. So, your direct referrals and sales earn you Tier One commissions, and sales by your sub-affiliates earn you Tier Two commissions.

What are Tier Two commissions?

These are the commissions you earn on sales produced by your sub-affiliates.

How are orders tracked and credited to my site?

As long as someone arrives by way of your affiliate code, their visit will be attributed to you. We then record their IP address, and put a 1-year cookie on their hard drive. If they return within a year and either their IP address matches, or the cookie is still present, they will be recognised as your referral, and you will be credited with any sales.

However, this system is not foolproof - you will not receive the credit for any sales if any of the following occur:

1) Before they buy anything, they are introduced to my site by another, different affiliate. In that case the more recent affiliate will get the credit.

2) The visit my website from a different computer - e.g. from a public library. Obviously in that case there will be a different IP address and no cookie.

3) They delete all cookies off their hard-drive and sign up with a new Internet Service Provider (and so have a new IP address).

How much will I be paid?

Ah, the $64,000 question! The answer is, of course, that it depends on you!

But how much will you be paid for each sale? You will receive the actual sales price multiplied by the appropriate Tier One or Tier Two commission (in most cases this is 50% and 15%). Note that you are paid on the actual sales price which may be less (if they responded to a special offer) or more (if they took up an upsell) than the standard published price.

When and how will I be paid?

Commissions will be added up and paid by PayPal Mass Pay around the middle of each month for all sales in the previous month. For example, all commissions earned during January will be paid around the middle of February. The exact date may vary but you WILL get paid. The minimum amount is $10. If there is less than $10 in your account, then this will sit there until you have earned enough commission to bring it above the $10 minimum.

How will I monitor my sales from day to day?

All visits and sales are displayed in real-time at the affiliate control panel so you can see how your campaigns are going. You will also see that your "sales" of the free ebooks are also recorded, so you can know how many people have downloaded the free ebook as a result of your recommendations.

In addition, you can also set up sophisticated tracking on individual hyperlinks, so you can determine exactly which ads are paying.

You can even input your advertising expenses so as to automatically calculate your Return On Investment (ROI) for each of your campaigns.

Detailed instructions on how to set this up, and how to make your sales campaigns more scientific and effective will be provided when you sign up as an affiliate. As I said, I will do everything in my power to make you successful!

Do I have to meet sales quotas or performance tiers before I can earn fees?

No. Unlike many other affiliate programs, we do not require our members to meet sales quotas or performance tiers to earn their fees. We want you to be rewarded for the sales generated from your links.

I operate more than one web site. Can you track them separately, but pay me with one commission check?

Yes. Using the sophisticated tracking at the affiliate control panel you can monitor the performance of individual hyperlinks, adverts, and websites.

If you choose to, you can also have several affiliate accounts.

However, note that all payments are made to PayPal accounts, so unless you use a different PayPal account for each of your affiliate accounts, all your commission payments will be lumped together.

What about product returns?

Occasionally customers to return products and request a refund - under our no-quibble guarantee we are always very prompt in making such refunds, which gives our clients great confidence in buying from us.

When such a refund occurs, you will be notified, and the the appropriate commission will be deducted from your affiliate account. This will, therefore, affect the payment you receive in the following month.

If this produces a negative balance on your account we will wait for three months to give you time to make some more sales, earn more commissions, and thus cover the shortfall. During this time we will keep you informed as to the status of your account. Our goal is to help you to succeed, so we will continue to provide you with advice and training to maximise your sales.

If after 3 months your account is still overdrawn, we will then send you an invoice for the amount outstanding. We would ask you to pay that invoice within 2 weeks.

Will I earn referral fees for personal orders that I make through my Web site?

No. All commissions are checked, so if you are only signing up so that you can buy the products cheaper for yourself, forget it pal! :-)

If someone clicks on my reseller link and don't buy that day but then they come back and buy a product directly through the main page of your site days or weeks later, do I receive credit for that sale?

Yes, provided that:

a) they buy within a year of the last time they clicked through on your link, and

b) they have not, in the meantime, clicked on another affiliate's link, in which case he or she will get the credit.

That is why you can earn money by giving away free ebooks, or just by encouraging people to visit the site or sign up for a free newsletter. Just so long as you can get them here, we will then log their visit and make sure you get credited if they buy anything. It's all done with cookies and IP addresses - very clever these techie people.

Building Your Business

How do I create links to 7StepsToFreedom.com?

Go to the affiliate control panel. Under the heading "View Links" you will find the hyperlink codes that you can use on your website or in your emails. They will generally be of the format:

http://7stepstofreedom.com/x.php?adminid=483&id=1833&pid=1415 where id is your affiliate code, and pid is the product code (the affiliate control panel will give you these links automatically). In this example, 1833 is my own affiliate code (for testing) and 1415 is The GOOD CHILD Guide. The adminid never changes and is always 483.

Don't like the look of the link? Feel it is too long and cumbersome? Worried about people cutting off your id and so "stealing" your commissions? Don't worry, when you sign up you will be shown how you can make the link much more user friendly and secure!

Where should I place the links on my web site?

In general terms, the effectiveness of your adverts and links can be ranked in the following order, with "most effective" at the top and "least effective" at the bottom.

Personal recommendation to a friend or someone who trusts your judgement (e.g. a loyal ezine subscriber who has previously bought on your recommendation.)

Reference to the product in the context of an informative article or review

Descriptive text ad, describing the benefits of the product.

Attention grabbing graphical ad.

Banner ad.

You will note that, contrary to what you might have expected, the top three are text ads, not pictures! Why? Because in general we screen out ads that look like ads - we all hate being sold to. But we will happily follow a personal recommendation. Failing that, we will want to be convinced (and that takes words) that the product will provide us with the benefit we are looking for. The most that the picture can do is to entice us to go somewhere else (i.e. click on it) to find out more.

So that is the first factor. The second is the position and importance of the ad on the page. People can only respond to it if:

They see it (so top of the page is better than bottom)
It catches their attention (so a solo ad is better than one crowded amongst others)
it is interesting and relevant (if your ezine is about fishing, don't try to promote some product designed to scare away fish so as to prevent over-fishing!)

Obviously it is all much more complicated than that - sign up and you will receive my newsletter which will teach and train you to be an effective marketer!

How often should I update my links?

You will be notified in the affiliate newsletter if there is any change to the products requiring a change to your links. Apart from that the only reason to update or change your links is if you can improve their effectiveness. Through the newsletter I will keep you informed of what is and is not working. But to be really effective you will want to track your own statistics, and gradually, scientifically, start to improve on them.

Yes, under the following conditions:

You are using them to promote my products and,

Of course! "The more you tell, the more you sell" is a general rule in advertising - especially if people like and trust you. So by all means tell people what you like about the products and, even better, how they have improved your own life. Personal testimony is still the most powerful selling tool.

How should I design my web site?

Every affiliate member site is unique. We respect your creativity and do not require you to format your pages in any particular way. In fact, the more of your own creativity you put into it, the more effective it may be. For some products I may provide a website template already built. If so - you don't have to use it! but you can if you wish.

Over time I will provide my affiliate members with graphics and banners that can be added to your existing pages. I will also give you suggestions on what methods have been most successful for our other affiliate members.

You are free to use graphics such as ebook covers to illustrate the products you are promoting.

How do I know what products to feature?

To make the most of the Affiliate Program, you should feature products that relate most to your website content. Your visitors will be most interested in products that relate directly to your site content.

Having said that - information on how to improve your life, or reach your goals is applicable to almost every human endeavour - from business, through singing, sports, and gardening, to love and relationships. So you should be able to find an angle that will appeal to your readers somehow!
